Machel Montano’s Soul Train Award

Soca music on the move The first step towards success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself. It’s human nature at times that we often become relaxed in our comfort zone and refuse to think or experiment outside the box. Thanks to a few Soca artists, promoters and contributors in the industry that are still striving to make a difference. Celebrate Two Reggae Geniuses

Nikita De Souza John Holt’s style was easy-going and more relaxed than most of his colleagues. Before I begin to electronically indict, may all readers especially my friends on the Ways & Means Committee, Welfare Wesley, the Barbershop clan, Genius, et al, kindly permit me to express my stance regarding anything that I have ever written about in this community newspaper. My goal has never been to make up anyone’s mind, but to open minds and to make the agony of the decision-making process so intense that the reader can only find relief by thinking… So here goes. Truth be told and known, Black folks lead the nation in church-going, praise-dancing, shouting, call-and-response, and meeting and …

Intercultural Choir back in a great performance

By Margot Blackman On October 26, The Montreal Intercultural Choir gave a concert at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Cote-des-Neiges. It was a benefit concert, a “thank you” to the rector and church members for the privilege of rehearsing on the premises. The lively and enthusiastic choir captivated the audience with their magnificent performance, which they sang a cappella with the occasional drum.
