Subban, reggae, soca, Montreal sizzled last year: 2014 Wrap Up

12-18-2014 DSThe start of every New Year often feels like a blank slate, a fresh start. We embark on new endeavours and challenges, with hopes of making improvements. Personally I am never one to do the whole resolutions thing as it felt like a jinx. Instead, my mantra is simply to focus on doing everything a little better.
As with any year that comes and goes, we’re left with memories of highs and lows. 2014 was filled with both, most of which for me at this point in time are one big blur. But here are some standouts….
Superstar defenceman P.K Subban picked up a gold medal in Sochi and a mega contract from the Montreal Canadiens. Funny man Sugar Sammy continues to sell out venues consistently, making him the top selling Canadian tour of the year according to Billboard magazine.
Blagrove Productions presented Its 11th Montreal International with one of its strongest line-ups ever. For the second year in a row, the Carifiesta parade jumped down St. Catherine Street.
Football (Soccer) fans united and enjoyed 32 days watching the games best players on the planet. Host Country and favoured to win, Brazil, was eliminated, and Germany walked off with the 2014 World Cup.
Scores of people came together to douse themselves with ice water and share it via social media. I just hope that a significant amount of money was actually raised for ALS.
One of the biggest lows of 2014 was the Mike Brown case and most recently the Eric Garner situation. They may no longer make the daily headlines, but a wound has been opened that needs considerable help to heal. The powers that be need to work toward a solution to the divide between police and community. And remember all lives matter.
Looking forward we all hope for a better year, not that 2014 was worst than any previous other in my opinion. With good health anything is possible.
On that note from my family to yours, I wish all of you a wonderful New Year, Welcome to 2015
