Steelband music will fill the air around McKenzie Park in Cote des Neiges as the annual Montreal International Steelpan Festival its 14th year, moves
Uptown on Sunday July 5.
This year, the featured band will be Salah Steelband Academy performing its highly anticipated panorama tune “Outta the Box” as it prepares to compete in Toronto where they won six national title and for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago at the first International Panorama competition.
Several school and community steelbands together with a line up of other performers are also gearing up to hit the stage at McKenzie Park for the family-day event including Coronation Steelband, St. Monica Steelband, Westmount Park Steelband, John Grant Steelband, Special Connection, CDNBCA Teen Steelband and CDNBCA Senior Steelband and Martin Albino and the Golden Stars.
There will be special appearances by several local calypsonians and the West Can senior and junior drummers.
This year the event is a collaborative event between Salah Steel Pan Academy and The Cote Des Neiges Black Community Association.
The day of steelband music gets at 3pm at McKenzie Park on Cote St. Catherine Cote des Neiges. Organizers are still calling for sponsors and vendors. Contact 514-651-4545
