The fourth annual Kenny Rockhead Pool Tournament on Sunday, January 31, turned out to be the most successful so far for organizers in their fundraising efforts for the ALS Society.
Ronnie Williams, one of the founders of the event bubbles with excitement as he announced that by the time the counting is done they will raise close to $4,000 to go towards the cause.
As usual, the pool room at Le Skratch Billiard Bar in LaSalle bustled with excitement as close to 100 participants and visitors mingled and shot a game or two while snacking on an elaborate supply of culinary delights supplied by…
People came from as far away as Toronto and Ottawa to spend a day with friends and relatives, all out to celebrate the memory of a special Montrealer.
Kenny Rockhead died of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in March 2012.
He was the son of the famed Rufus Rockhead, whose legendary nightclub, Rockhead’s Paradise, was a premier entertainment venue in North America from the 1930s to 1980.
Among those present for the tournament were Rockhead’s wife, Anne, and sons Martin and Dean, as well as his goddaughter Debra.
At the end of the day, Manny Valera beat back all comers in the tournament and walked away with bragging rights for a year.
Also, the famed Kenny’s Angels were on hand to make sure the day flowed smoothly.
The event is staged every year by the Producers III, which recently announced several new appointees to its board of directors: Mrs. Debra Christmas, Christiane Williams, Ms. Laurie DePaola, Mrs. Anna Rockhead and Mrs. Kathy Farray.
In thanking everyone for their support in making this year special, founder Ronnie Williams singled out some of his loyal sponsors, Dunn’s Deli Decarie, Ricardo’s, Da Franco’s and Il Piano.
