Blacks in The ‘Real’ World

Bob White newIs anyone listening, or hearing?

Another hot, humid day in Montreal, summer still rolling on. But that didn’t matter to the people in the barbershop; the air conditioner was humming… Everybody had something to say, because there’s so much going on locally and internationally.
The Olympics are on and everybody was giving each other high fives, because Nirra Fields from Montreal and Lyzanne Murphy are representing Canada on the women’s Olympics basketball team. The reason why they’re representing Canada is because they deserve to be there.
A lot of knowledgeable people in the barbershops across Montreal say that both of those young Olympians should be getting more play time. I’m sure if you ask Michael Smith of the Jamaica Association he would agree. Now, Michael Smith should be thinking seriously about talking to the Honorary Council for Jamaica, and real estate mogul, George Grant, should be thinking about raising a million dollars in Montreal (two million in Toronto) with a gala spectacle with head table guest Usain Bolt some members of the Jamaica track team. The gala should take place [in Toronto] Caribana week, for obvious reasons. That kind of event would be a slam-dunk.
“Any other ethnic group would not just be thinking about it, they would be planning… and doing it,” the Genius said.
“Unfortunately, a gala like that would never happen, because as religious as Blacks are, they would not even buy a ticket to see the Last Supper with the original cast.”
Listen to this:
Genius continued, “When the late, great Oscar Peterson passed away (and when I say great, the whole world knew who Oscar Peterson was) the Union United Church never raised, or think about staging an event to say raise a million dollars in his honour. And speaking of Union United Church, “are they really united.” And what’s going on down there? I heard the STM is like a vulture waiting for a lock to be put on the door so they can buy the property, because it is prime real estate. And they will end up buying it anyway.”
These days there are more weddings and baptisms in reception halls and restaurants around town than at the Union United Church. So it’s just a matter of time. Like the Titanic, it will go down, and it’s unfortunate. Things happen in threes: Black Studies Center, Negro Community Center, and now the Union United Church (pending). It’s just a matter of time. There are almost 200,000 or so Black people in Montreal. And after all these years they still do not own the property (where the church is located).
Just Chillin’ walked into the barbershop, gave everyone a high five and said, “I have some positive news.” He took an article out of his briefcase, the New York Daily News (NY Daily News.com), August 5, 2016. “Now remember, I said it’s positive news. It’s not a long story because I know you don’t like to read books, or even long newspaper stories. So this is just a short story for all you people. Again, I repeat, it’s positive news. The headline reads, Killer beaten. Inmate bashes racist church shooter Roof. Let me read you a little bit of the article:
“THE HATE-FILLED racist accused of slaughtering nine black parishioners in a South Carolina church last year was roughed up Thursday in jail bathroom, officials said…Dylan Roof, who is white, was sucker-punched in the shower by a black inmate inside the Charleston County Detention Center around … Dwayne Stafford bashed Roof several times in the face and body before a jail guard pulled the two apart. The jailhouse beating made Stafford an Internet star with strangers pledging to send him cash…. If you want to read the whole story, just the NYD website stated above…”
Next year, Montreal is celebrating its 375th anniversary.
But how can you celebrate a 375th anniversary without involving the world’s greatest living Jazz pianist, Dr. Oliver Jones?” Professor asked. And there’s still no statue for Oscar Peterson. If he and Oliver Jones were white, I wonder what they would do to recognize them.
Just check the Gazette article, No Jones, no Peterson, no jazz in 375th events, by Catherine Solyom. Here’s a sample “[…] But check out all the events planned for Montreal’s 375th anniversary and he is nowhere to be found — not Jones, not Peterson, and not the rich history of the southwest’s black community…”
And what about Matthew daCosta, the Black navigator? All he did was bring Samuel de Champlain to Quebec. But remember, Matthew daCosta was not white; he was Black.
Dropout said, “I was in New York City a couple weeks ago and one of those slick New Yorkers (and they are slick) told me a story. Listen up. Silence. I’m going to tell you. It goes like this: A gentleman walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He says he is going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.
The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for such a loan. So the gentleman hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce parked on the street in front of the bank. Everything checks out, and the bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. An employee drives the Rolls into the bank’s underground garage and parks it there.
Two weeks later, the gentleman returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, “We” are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we did some checks and found out that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why would you bother to borrow $5,000?”
The gentleman replied, “Where else in New York can I park my car for two weeks for 15 bucks?”
Dropout continued, “While I was in New York I was listening to the radio. Howard “Stretch” Carr on CKUT is wasting his time in Montreal on the radio every Saturday. If he had gone to New York several years ago, he would’ve been a major force in NYC with the same kind of program he does right now in Montreal.”
I also went to the Schomberg Library and was talking to one of the staff there. I told him I’m from Montreal and he asked me if I know everything. I told them no, that’s why I’m here [at the library]. He gave me a paper to read. Here’s a little taste: No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple…. Our eyes always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing… A goldfish has a memory span of three seconds… A shark is the fish that can blink with both eyes… A snail can sleep for three years… An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain… Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite… If the population of China walked past you, 8 abreast, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction…”
There are many more…
Here’s something to ponder on: A July 8, 2016, Globe and Mail article, entitled ‘No Justice for black deaths, just sequels’, by Sarah Kendzior. After Rodney king, many assumed the violence against black Americans would no longer be denied. But the death toll continues to rise… 1994.
And then there’s a Thursday, August 11, 2016 Montreal Gazette story: Report Rebukes Baltimore Police. Read it. Be informed.
We asked one of the regulars at the Ways and Means Committee after he was served a plate of Chitlins and Cornbread [‘con’] bread who he’s gonna vote for, because Hillary Clinton has a whole lot of heavy hitters behind her. People, business-titans like Magic Johnson, Sheryl Sandberg and Warren Buffett (a very close friend of Beyonce and LeBron James). He said he’s voting for Hillary Clinton because she’s the best of the worst.
“Did you know that the U.S. sent 1,000 secret service people to Rio to protect their athletes, and that the yacht that the U.S. Olympic basketball team lives on costs $13,000 a day?”
It’s a mad, mad world out there. Just check the 6 O’clock news, you’ll see. People are getting killed all over the world, and there are white folks selling religion all over town. I met some at a metro station just the other day.
If you’re mentally aware of what’s going on around you, there’s something going on all the time. Because it seems “like a jungle sometimes, and it makes me wonder how I keep from going under…”
Like I said earlier I got some good news. Here’s some more. Daily News NYDailyNews.com Friday, August 5, 2016. One small punch for mankind: Zim now on receiving end of citizen ‘justice’. George Zimmerman was punched in the face at a Florida bar after bragging about killing Trayvon Martin… This man just punched me in the face…He said he was going to kill me. You need to end three or four cops…”
Singer Dionne Warwick told us a long time ago, “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love…”
Whatever happened to the World’s Most Beautiful Thing? LOVE!
