Carifiesta 2014 overflowed with energy, as thousands of revelers and spectators jammed along St. Catherine Street in downtown Montreal on Saturday, July 5, for another edition of the much anticipated summertime parade.
With just three bands in full masquerade costumes, Roots Cultural Association, JMG and Dave Marshall’s Socalypso Colors and Carnival Vibrations, what Carifiesta lacked in color was more than compensated for by the zest and exuberance of the thousands of young people who were out to enjoy the sparkling sunshine and Caribbean music.
Then there was the massive Jab Jab band (Montreal Jab) presented by The Grenada Association, which as usual, was a powder keg of energy and excitement.
There were also presentations by the Haitian community, Lodge Brothers (Camouflage) and All Stars Steelband out of Cote des Neiges Black Community Association.
West Can Folk dancers and drummers set the pace for Carifiesta 2014, leading the parade with their always-captivating street theatre.
Later that night, party people enjoyed the irrepressible Bunji Garlin and Mr. Killa at Le Rinque while others opted for an “all-white” boat ride.

In the end, spectators enjoyed two bands in full masquerade costumes, Roots and JMG and Dave Marshall’s Socalypso Colors joined by Carnival Vibration. The other presentations included the massive and ever-popular Jab Jab mas `band presented by The Grenada Association, the Haitian float, a much-subdued Lodge Brothers Camouflage band, The All Stars Steelband out of CDNBCA. West Can Folk dancers and drummers lead the parade with flair and energy.
The parade started around 1 PM and ended by 3:30 PM.
Participants and spectators alike reveled in the soca music and jab-jab chants that resonated on the streets of downtown Montreal.
