It is a humbling privilege to receive the baton from Pastor Julianna who over the years has been a mentor, a teacher, my pastor and spiritual mother. This woman has such a love for the city of Montreal, for the kingdom of God, for the black community and well to be quite frank for mankind.
In fact, it is her love for the readers of this paper that has motivated her to focus her attention even more earnestly to the next level of intercession to IMPACT this city.
Together, let us continue on the path she led us on; and pursue the journey of making an IMPACT wherever we go.
For some time now, we have been focusing on praying to God and the importance of relationship with the Lord through various types of prayer.
Now, we will begin to look at hearing the voice of the Lord.
As Pastor Julianna often taught us, communication is a two-way street. Meaning both parties need to be engaged in and participate in listening and speaking.
Prayer allows us to talk to God but how do we listen to God? How do we hear what God has to say about our lives?
The answer is way less complicated than you think. The answer is simple; God speaks to us through His word, thus through the Bible.
Believe it or not you can tune into the frequency of the voice of the Lord by reading the word of God.
His voice will become clearer the more you read the Bible. Sometimes you can study it and ask God through the Holy Spirit for understanding. Other times you can simply read the Bible and open your heart to appropriate the words to your life and situation and allow your heart to respond in prayer. This is conversation!
You don’t need to read your Bible from cover to cover to begin to hear the Lord speak to you. Sometimes one word or one verse can speak volumes communicating something so profound to our soul. You will not hear a specific voice that can be identified as His but often it will be in the voice of your thoughts.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us that “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to the dividing of soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.
This means God’s word is so powerful that it can impact your heart, your soul, your spirit and your body. Jesus said “…the words that I speak to you, they spirit and they are life.”
I encourage you to read the Word of God one verse at a time and connect to it.
How about we try this together, right now ? Yes, now !
Psalms 18:30 reads: “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler[ shield, support, defense, protection] to all those that trust in him”.
Read that over a couple of times to let it sink in.
By reading the Bible, reading this column, listening to the word of God preached; you are turning the dial in the right direction to hear the Voice of God clearly.
