As Salaam Alaikum (Peace be onto you)
The Hon.Elijah Muhammad said that we must first become brothers, so Iasked myself what is a brother? How do we define what a brother is,and what is the meaning of true brotherhood?
In John 3:14 it reads:
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love thebrethren (brothers).
One definition for the word brother is ‘one who shares with another acommon national or racial origin (soul).’
Another definition is ‘one of a type similar to another.’
So a brother is someone who shares a common origin with his brother,and is similar in type, and brotherhood is defined as feelings offriendship, support and understanding between each other.
In our lessons we are asked who is the original man? When we are asked thisquestion it is a question that answers our origins, our nature andour purpose, so we as brothers have a purpose that exceeds even blood.
God created man as the scripture says, “In his image, and after hislikeness. He gave us, the original people of the earth, his nature,that’s why we refer to God (Allah) as our father, because we are His children, we come from Him, so since our true origin is His nature, that makes us brothers who have a Divine relationship with each other.
But as The Hon. Elijah Muhammad and The Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan has taught us that the Blackman suffers from self hate, envy and jealousy, in the scriptures in Hosea 4:6 it’s reads: “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”
How can we be brothers if we don’t know the origins that make us brothers? The Hon. Elijah Muhammad said that, “one of the greatest handicaps among the so-called Negroes is that there is no love for his or her own kind. This not having love for self is the root cause of hate (dislike), disunity, disagreement, quarreling, betraying one another”, how can you be brothers if you don’t have love for self?
We are as it says in Isaiah 42:22.
“But this is a people (Black people) robbed and spoiled, they are all of them snared in holes and they are hid in prison houses. They are for a pray and none delivereth for a spoil, and none sayeth, “restore.”
The reason why we need restoring is because we are not the brothers we can be to one another, we were robbed of a knowledge of self and our true nature so that we may be made a pray.
The scripture says, “we would be brought into a strange land and be put among a strange people.” That made us strangers to one another, we would be held captive to these people. We would not know our true self because everything we know of our origins with God would be taken away from us and cause us to hate ourselves, fighting and killing one another, when we don’t know ourselves. We become jealous and self-destructive because we see our brother advancing.
We will hate on the most trivial things, like his car, a position at a job our brother acquired, if he has a beautiful women or anything. In the story of Cain and Abel, Cain killed his brother because God accepted Abel’s offering over his but the God (Allah) asks him a question before he killed his brother in Genesis: 4 “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Meaning that we cannot allow ourselves as the people of God and brothers to become envious of one another, God is telling Cain to not allow the sin of envy to cause him to do something
that is not in his nature (to do). What we need to understand is that we are all gifted, talented and those gifts can become manifest if we only knew ourselves.
God has come to make us brothers again and bring us back to our true nature. We are the people of God (Allah). Our origins are divine. God has raised a messenger for us, and a servant to bring us back to our true selves.
Your God made you in his image and likeness. We are more than where we are born. We are not Jamaican, Haitian, African or West Indian. These are names, which The Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan said in his 1997 Saviours Day address: “These names are devices of Satan. Think about who made you a West Indian, a Haitian, African, a Christian, a Jew or a Muslim.
Our lessons in The Nation Of Islam ask the question: “Why did the devil call our people African?
The Answer is to make us think we are all different.
We are the people of God; we are brothers under God. Our true origins are not in the name or an island; it’s with God, our Father. That’s why the Hon. Elijah Muhammad taught that we should never wear the slave master’s names or his children’s name like Roundtree, St-Hill, Johnson, etc.
We were here before the tree, before the hills and the mountains.
The Holy Qur’an teaches that the best names belong to Allah. These are your names because you, brother, are a God. Child of the most high God.
So let us be brothers.
