The award-winning musician and evangelist, Gerry Thompson, will be the star performer at the breast cancer benefit concert on May 26, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish.
With over 12 CDs consisting of over 200 songs and about 300 DVDs to his credit, the Jamaican-born musical powerhouse has produced a string of inspirational hits, including Just a Closer Walk; I’M Glad To Be Home Again; God Isn’t Through With Me Yet, in several different genres including Gospel, Country Western, Reggae, Soca, Calypso and Soul.
Thompson carries with him a powerful testimony of change called, “Why I Put The Gun Down,” based on his encounter with God resulting in his abandoning the “street life” and embracing life as an Evangelist that has led him to preaching and singing the gospel all over the world.
Thompson has been a regular to Montreal over the years and has garnered a strong following here.
On May 26, he will join a line-up of established and emerging performers on stage, including Zina Edwards, a well-respected Montreal Gospel star, who was recently on the Tasha Cobbs’ “Break Every Chain” tour and who over the years has shared the stage with icons like Shirley Ceasar, Bobby Jones, Mary Mary and Bridget Blucher.
Sophia, a well-known Montreal-based songstress will be performing songs from her repertoire as well as well-known classics.
Several up-and-coming stars that are ready to make their mark on the local Gospel circuit are also on the bill, including Diamond Sisters, quintet of siblings from the Mount Zion Church, described as the future of gospel music in the city.
Testify, who are also from Mount Zion Church, will also be on stage performing two classics, I Rest My Case At The Cross and The Hope.
As will Stacy and Family, a quartet of a mother and her four children formed with that hope that their music will help people draw close to God and feel his love.
Toronto-based Elaine is another powerful and anointed worshipper, she will be present to perform from her large repertoire of songs.
Elaine was recently the winner of the Toronto Transit Corporation Idol singing completion.
This evening fundraiser offers an opportunity for Montrealers to congregate for an evening of worship and help Vision of Truth Ministries as they raise money for breast cancer treatment. The evening gets underway at 6 PM.
