The Crowne Plaza Hotel was the backdrop for an amazing Mother’s Day event which honored mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, family and friends for their contributions.
“Mother of the Year” awardee, Shernet “Timmy” Emanuel, a mother of two girls and grandmother to three grandsons, gratefully received her plaque, flowers and gifts from organizers Judy LaMotte, President of Judy’s Ushering and Coordinating Service and Gemma Raeburn-Baynes of Playmas Montreal Cultural Association. Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Montreal, Mr. George Grant, was on hand to give a few congratulatory remarks to Timmy while CTV captured the moment.
Among the almost 300 guests in attendance were Timmy’s family and friends who came from as far away as Florida, Philadelphia, New York and Toronto, Honorary Consul for Grenada in Montreal, Mr. Leonard Wharwood Jr, Deputy Honorary Consul for Grenada in Montreal, Mr. Ted Blaize who is also president of Grenada Market, one of the sponsors for the event.
Attending with her 90-year-old mother, Florence and husband Ismael, was Honorable Juanita Westmoreland-Troare, first Black Judge in Quebec. On hand to give the Blessings was Bishop Woodroe Thompson of Church of God of Prophecy Eastern Canada who flew in from Toronto with his wife Pauline and mother-in-law for this special occasion.
The afternoon was punctuated with entertainment including the Montreal Ebony Fashion Show which was held while the guests were enjoying their four course meal. Gospel singers The Fitz-Patrick Sisters, Jazz Singer and Guitarist Aliah Guerra, Samba dancer Sophie, and Gospel Sensation Priscilla Findlay and her Band all brought the house down with their fabulous performances. The audience was crying for more and Priscilla did not leave them until she did her encore performance which brought everyone to their feet. Fourteen year old D.J. Abna was on point with his incredible sound and D.J. style. Comedian Andrew Searles kept us laughing and Jab Jab Orchestra kept the crowd on the dance floor, well after closing time.
