Montreal Intercultural Choir under the direction of Dr. Leonard Wosu

In 1986, Dr. Leonard Wosu’s passion for music and song urged him to gather all the aspiring and want-to-be singers at his workplace, the Montreal General Hospital and at other hospitals across Montreal and formed them into The Montreal InterHospital Choir, singing songs of praise and inspiration.
In fact the group, originally composed of approximately 50 members working in the medical profession, quickly grew in popularity and became a formidable force on the local gospel scene. Their annual Christmas concert drew large numbers of music loving Montrealers.
Since then, the name of the group has changed to the Montreal Intercultural Choir to represent the membership of its people from diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, thus reflecting the intercultural spirit of Montreal. It is an eight-part choir which performs complex harmonizing arrangements of classics, soulful spirituals, gospels, and African rhythms in a wide variety of languages.
Since its formation, the Montreal Intercultural Choir has participated in a number of socio-cultural events ranging from the Lanaudière International Music Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, Festival Nuits d’Afrique, Montreal Acapella Festival, Repentigny Gospel Festival, and Just for Laughs Festival, to being part of the CHOM-FM concert with Oliver Jones, I Have a Song, the Humphrey Freedom Award Ceremony for human rights and Democracy, and the welcoming Ceremony for Winnie and Nelson Mandela.
Today, the choir continues strong as it celebrates its 30th year, practicing every Saturday at St-Paul’s Anglican Church in Cote-des-Neiges, thanks to the kindness and generosity of the church’s spiritual leader, Reverend Jim Bennett.
And it continues to remain true to its passion for supporting humanitarian causes. Over the years, it has participated in a line-up of meaningful events including: Khoi-Khoi, an event that raises funds for a communications institute in South Africa; En Harmonie 4 Kids, a fundraiser in support of Sun Youth; Grandmothers to Grandmothers, in support of the Steven Lewis Foundation; concerts for the NDG Food bank and a performance at the Marché Bonsecours in honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
On Saturday, December 3rd , The Montreal Intercultural Choir will celebrate its 30th Anniversary at the Annual Christmas
concert, “30 Years of Song” at St-Albert’s Church (2715 Cote-Ste-Catherine) at 7:00 pm. Their recently released (2015) CD will be available at the concert.
