Dr. Alwin Spence
The election is over but life goes on and we have to live with one another. But there are some troubling things we have to deal with. South of the border, the former
President falsely declared that the election was rigged. All evidence proved otherwise, but he insisted with absolutely no proof with his accusations.
He was lying, it was false, and he knew he was lying, and that was what was dangerous.
It is cruel because he knows that there could be as many as 50% of the public who would go along with this lie. Of this number maybe more than half of them are mere sheep following blindly their leader.
The others follow because they believe there is something to be gained individually or collectively from this lie. So from one lie many are sadly deceived. The attack on the U.S. Government on January 6, 2022, was because of this lie. It could have been worse.
Coming back home to Quebec, the Premier has declared that the French language is in serious decline and therefore it must be protected. If this is true, then fix it.
Increase immigration from French speaking countries, and also encourage French people in Quebec to have more children.
But these suggestions are not even considered as there is no real evidence of this decline and thus no urgent need to protect it. So is this a big lie?
Is the purpose of this lie to scare French people to come together against non-French speakers?
This seems to be working, French against English. Many are deceived because of this lie about the decline of the use of French.
This is sad. To win an election based wholly or partly on a lie is wrong, it is even pathetic.
To create a crisis where none exists is deceiving and unfair. Can you imagine a high profile cabinet minister of Immigration daring to label immigrants as lazy, as many as 80% do not work do not speak French, and do not adhere to the values of Quebec society?
For these lies he has already apologized. But this was immigrant bashing from the highest level, based on lies.
Census data from 2016 show that 22% of immigrants coming to Quebec
reported French as their mother tongue, but a whopping 83% had knowledge of French on arrival.
Also just about 46% of immigrants coming to Quebec have a University degree, which is more than double the rate of the general population.
Canada is grossly underpopulated. It is now experiencing a tragic labor shortage causing businesses to go out of business. But there has not been any significant attempt to fill that gap. Instead the Quebec Minister of immigration has taken to the stage to denigrate immigrants.
Are not the Premier and the Minister, themselves immigrants? Are we not all immigrants, except for the Indigenous people?
The truth is that people from lily white countries in Europe are not migrating in large numbers anymore. Who then are the ones who need to travel in search of a better life?
Using all means, people are travelling to Europe, U.S. and Canada because of the opportunities they hope to find. These people are non-whites, who are perceived as second class, and are feared that with success many may become more successful. Let the chips fall, most migrants are here to do well.
Declining French may be a statement of deception. Some as sheep will go along with it. Others may exploit it for what they will gain from it, even though they know that it is a damn lie. What is appalling and scary is that all these lies do not interfere with the landslide victories of those who perpetrate them. The CAQ, the Premier and the Minister of Immigration have won with increased support. It says something about what our society is becoming.
