Honoring The Queen Maker Dawn McNichols

Honoring The Queen Maker Dawn McNichols

By Gemma Raeburns

After years of staging pageants and fashion shows in the City of Montreal, Trinidadian-born Dawn McNichols is about to get her due.
On Sunday, March 10, Dawn will receive the “Fashion Guru Award” and will be amongst the six fashion designers who will be receiving the “Woman of Merit” Award at the stylish “A Taste of Tea…and Fashion 2019.”
Dawn McNichols came to Canada in April 1981, and started to participate in fashion shows during her high school years and then as a member of Dawson College’s Black Students Association. She enjoyed it so much that she started to produce shows, working behind the scenes with community organizations.
A breast cancer survivor, Dawn does not rest on her laurels and does not intend to slow down one bit. She is involved with the Quebec Amateur Netball Federation as a player, both on the local and international teams; she also spearheads her own netball team “Pioneers.” She is affectionately known as “The Queen Maker” in that she produces the Little Miss Tiara Queen Show, Miss Montreal Carnival Queen Show and Miss Elegance Queen Show.
Dawn is co-producer of the hit runway show “Rip The Runway – Fashion for a Cause” and Models Coordinator for Montreal Ebony Models, Playmas Montreal’s Montreal Caribbean Fashion Week, African Fashion Week and The Cornucopia Association.
Dawn is excited to always promote the up-and-coming young people in the community.  Her drive, passion and volunteerism make her an excellent recipient for this prestigious “Fashion Guru Award.”
The community is invited to come out and show their support for Dawn McNichols and experience the tradition of indulging in the ritual of tea drinking, accompanied by the most delicious tea delicacies, an enchanting Fashion Show staged by the six Honoree Designers and live performance by singing sensation Mireille Philosca.
Lots of door prizes to be won and much fun is expected. Music by DJ 610.
