Gospel make-over for Lenna Simon

Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, singer Lena Simon is making her debut as a Montreal gospel singer.
Her new CD titled, “Gotta Have Faith,” has a list of 7 songs inspired by her journey to faith. She wrote songs that are a raw and heartfelt representation of her spiritual journey.
“I write what I have been through, one of my song is titled I am not the woman I used to be which is my present truth. I am not the person I used to be before Christ came into my life. I am happy, I pray and I am at peace with everyone.” Simon says in an interview with the CONTACT.
She is confident that her fresh sound inspired by her testimony is just what the Montreal gospel industry needs. Her songs are a mix of reggae and ragga infused with a Christian message.
Since giving her life to Christ in 2008, Lenna has been singing at weddings and at small concerts, she feels this is her time to step out. She hopes that her songs can uplift others and encourage people to live their lives sold out to Christ.
Notable gospel musicians in the Montreal circuit, such as, Zena Edwards, Dexter Johnston and Mello G will also be performing at the event.

The Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec invites you to attend the second annual Oil Down Festival, which will be held on Saturday, September 29 at Le Manoir, 5319 Notre Dame de Grace, in NDG.
This event, which starts at 7 p.m. and continues until 2 a.m. promises to be a cultural presentation of food, music and entertainment from the Spice Island of the Caribbean – Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
This Fest will also feature the first ever Competition of Parishes making Grenada’s National Dish, ”Oil Down” the pinnacle of Grenadian cuisine. Stalls will be decorated to represent different parishes in Grenada, and showcase their respective claim to fame.
The focus of the competition has taken a turn this year, so the Stall decorations and presentations will be the key for the judges’ final decisions.
Of course, we know that the Oil Down preparations and presentations of the participants will be beyond delicious. If you’re there you can decide.
The night will also be overflowing with great entertainment.
It will be an exciting evening and night at Le Manoir in NDG.

Big Domino tournament on Sept. 22

On September 22, the City Hall of Town of Mount Royal at 90 Roosevelt Avenue will come alive with games and excitement as hundreds of top Domino players converge for the 1st Canadian International Domino Championships to be staged in Montreal.
Organizers, Star Can Cultural Association, are expecting participants from Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, who will be vying for thousands of dollars in prize money.
There will be an individual competition with the winner coming out with $1,000 as well as a 10-man team competition with the winners taking home a $2,000 top prize.
Wikkepedia, the on-line information source describes Dominoes as a family of tile-based games played with rectangular “domino” tiles. Each domino is a rectangular tile with a line dividing its face into two square ends. Each end is marked with a number of spots (also called pips, nips, or dobs) or is blank. The backs of the dominoes in a set are indistinguishable, either blank or having some common design.
Most domino games are blocking games, i.e. the objective is to empty one’s hand while blocking the opponents’. In the end, a score may be determined by counting the pips in the losing players’ hands.
In scoring games, the scoring is different and happens mostly during game play, making it the principal objective.
Scoring points by laying the dominoes end to end (the touching ends must match: i.e., one’s touch one’s, two’s touch two’s, etc.). If the dots on the exposed ends total any multiple of five the player is awarded that number of points. All sides of the first double (the spinner) may be used one piece to each side and later one to each end. All other doubles are played at right angles to the line and the total points on both ends are counted.
The game is played widely in the Caribbean and is especially popular in Guyana and Jamaica.
Organizers say there are many Domino teams in the community and this tournament is an opportunity for players to test their skills against each other.
They are inviting players to register early.
The event will be followed by an after-party Rosa from Soul to Soul, Road Warrior, Biggie Gold from Ottawa, Little Thunder and James Bond.
