The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Montreal, Inc, continues its tradition of handing out bursaries at its annual Vincy Brunch.
On Sunday, March 17, 2024, over 200 attendees packed the Notre Dame Des Neiges Church Hall for an afternoon of Vincy food and camaraderie and to pay tribute to the academic success of two students of Vincentian descent.
Mr. Jordan Williams received the association’s bursary in memory of Alfonso Theodore Roberts. Williams is attending Vanier College and will continue his education as a student-athlete in his remaining CEGEP year.
Ms. Myah Rowe, the recipient of the Kate and Fetterley Bursary, is a graduating student from Vanier College with an acceptance letter to Concordia University already in hand. She will be entering the sociology undergraduate program.
For many years, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Montreal has awarded bursaries in memory of Mr. Roberts and Mr. Noel Hughes Conway King to assist CEGEP and university students of Vincentian citizenship or descent. Kane Fetterly Funeral Homes provides an additional bursary for successful applicants from the same category of students.
Representatives from several local community associations were among the attendees at the function. The president of the St. Vincent and Grenadines Association of Ottawa and the chairperson of the Vincy Unity Picnic Committee were also in attendance.
Entertainment was provided by singers Pete Douglas and Zina Edwards, saxophonist Dexter Johnson, and steelpan player Fatima Wilson. Poems were presented by Ms. Leonie Mars and Ms. Rose Weeks.
The president of the association, Ms. Nicole John, thanked the attendees for their support.
