(IT’S CHRISTMAS) THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF YEAR

As far as holidays go, at this or any other time of the year, anyone who can think of a better, or more exciting celebratory period of the year, should step up, and put up, by way of founding a New Holiday to replace one of the existing ones that has lost its celebratory quality and significance befitting a holiday deserving of any reason for a general sense of satisfaction whatsoever. Well, some people are of the opinion that such holidays are already in existence. Perhaps so, but I’m yet to hear of any. But I can think of a …

FIGHTING IN SUDAN [Pt. 1]

Sure, we should feel good, even proud of our proverbial “Motherland,” the place where many profess that life as we know, began centuries ago. Where people of African descent can trace our ancestry and origins to, the African continent. What we cannot do, however, is beam with any degree of pride given the recurring crises of hate and bloodletting… that we’ve seen in different mediums playing out on the continent, which force citizens of various countries and tribes, in different parts of the continent to flee their homelands to seek refuge in faraway places to escape political, domestic, and other …

Staring down a family mental trait

My great grandmother used to say, “Let the young folks listen to what the elders say and when danger is near get out of the way…” Hmm…? Now I get, understand it. She was a nice… great old lady who lived deep into her nineties… The people whom I wish I could connect with to ask how old she was when her Life’s time ran out. How I sometimes wish I could give her a phone call. So, I had a session with my doctor a couple weeks ago, one of my recurring meetings with her to determine my present …

About the Liberal’s defeat and Dominique Anglade

Recent results from the St. Henri-Saint Anne by-elections brings back in focus the inglorious departure of Dominique Anglade from the political arena of Quebec I believed Anglade’s political likability quotient was high as she battled nefarious forces to maintain her political stature and status in the narrow and fragile world of politics in this province. Clearly, business acumen and other abilities and skills don’t necessarily translate into success in the fragile, language-based world of politics here. One of the primary obstacles in her path to greater political acceptability in high office was the blatant lack of support (even) from people …

FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

I had a session with my doctor a couple weeks ago, one of my recurring meetings with her to determine my present state of health under her medical care and guidance. I always tell people that if I owned an automobile, much the same way many to most of them make a habit of visiting a garage an ongoing basis to consult their mechanic whenever they hear a strange noise coming from under the hood or somewhere else, I treat my body and health as such, a piece of machinery that endures a lot of mileage and punishment almost every …

BLACK HISTORY… It’s for proverbial future generations…

Call it whatever you like, but at this time of year some people, even the ones who should know, become a bit confused about what’s going on in and around the city to recognize and more importantly celebrate or commemorate the important event that’s should be foremost in each and every Black person’s mind at this time of year, Black History Month. Given the seeming importance of the annual moment or period in the lives of Black people (People of African descent, one would think that the month-long celebration, or better stated, recognition of that brief moment or period in …

BLACK HISTORY and its celebrations

Call it whatever you like, but at this time of year some people, even the ones who should know become a bit confused about what’s going on around the city to recognize celebrate and or commemorate the important event that’s should be foremost in each and every Black person’s mind, Black History Month. Given the importance of that annual moment or period in the lives of Black people (People of African descent) one would think that the month-long celebration of that moment in time would be recognized with more fanfare “to-do” however or whatever people choose to do to recognize …

CALL IT A POST-CHRISTMAS WRAP UP

I went to a party last weekend, what I simply refer to as a post-Christmas wrap-up event, get together, or whatever. By no stretch was it a normal or typical Christmas party: no loud music, no singing, dancing or other elements associated with a usual party. There was music yes, but more appropriate for the occasion, listening than dancing… in keeping with the unspoken, but expected prevailing and appropriate dining than dancing atmosphere at the venue. No visible frowns, grumbles or signs of hurt feelings to speak of; guests evidently liked and enjoyed it that way. The joy and good …

The MURDER OF ANOTHER YOUNG AND INNOCENT BLACK MALE

His last living Christmas I can only guess was little over a year ago, Christmas 2021. I don’t know if he was able to celebrate freely, as it were. Or if he was incarcerated at the time, but it’s where he died, or was killed a couple, or three weeks or so before that annual extended season and week-long celebratory period, a.k.a “the most wonderful time of the year…” arrived. Hopefully, the young man was able to have a ‘grand ol’ time with his family and friends during that period which, in retrospect, would’ve been the last living Christmas of …

CHRISTMAS 2022: ONE FOR RECENT AND DISTANT GENERATION

Christmas 2022 is here. “The most wonderful time of the year,” one holiday song calls it. Who’s bold enough to deny or question that bold sentiment? At this time of year, we, meaning most to all of us, are in a similar mental state of mind (for all that’s worth, depending on one’s religious affiliation (however one identifies) and are thinking Christmas thoughts… At any given time of a daily 24-hour cycle of personal awake hours (be they day-time or night-time, when one is not asleep and preoccupied with the looming holiday season and rampant merry-making, which I’ve long concluded …
