Sweet-bread competition
Who makes the best COCONUT BREAD in Mtl

Contact staff

Coconut BreadIf you have ever been to the Caribbean, you’ve heard the debate several times over which Island makes the best coconut bread or as it’s  called on some islands  “sweet bread.”
The basic recipe is flour, grated coconut, sugar, salt, baking power with optionals of fruits and sweet spices but it’s how you put together the basics and how you nice it all up that takes you over the top.
Barbados has claimed the bragging rights, but the Trini’s  dispute it, so do the Jamaicans, Grenadians and of course the Vincy’s.
Playmas Montreal is ready to put everyone to the test and find the best.
On Sunday, July 10, 2015 at 6767 Cote des Neiges, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Montreal will declare the reigning “Coconut Bread King or Queen” with cash prize, trophy and other prizes.
It  promises to be a wonderful Sunday afternoon of tasting, sampling, eating, dancing, drinking and real fun.
The ongoing discussion as to who makes the best coconut bread can now be or at least contribute more to the debate.
The creation of the “Coconut Bread Competition”, the best baked Caribbean coconut bread, can now be proclaimed for a period of time, consequently, with the potential success of the competition, bakers or participants will up their game for the next competition.
The competition is open to all with the exception of restaurants or food caterers. Registration fee is  $15  or $25.00 for the purchase of a table which enables bakers to sell their goods.
Contact Melaine Campbell at 514-893-6643  to register for the contest.  Registrations close July 4, 2016.  Continue to read Community Contact for rules of the contest.
