Montreal West Church of God of Prophecy celebrates 30th anniversary
Contact STAFF
The 30th anniversary celebrations continue for the congregation and for members of the choir of Montreal West Church of God of Prophecy, on Saturday April 30, when two of the leading voices in Caribbean Gospel music, George Banton and Donnett Thompson Hall come to town for an encore concert.
The event, aptly titled Encore, will be staged at the church hall, 5255 Rue Sorel in TMR, and is expected to be one of the highlight concerts on the Montreal Gospel calendar for 2016.
After more than 45 years on the gospel circuit, Banton, who has amassed a massive discography that includes several memorable albums such as Me At The Altar, Sit Down Servant, My Jesus and I, and I’m Next In Line For My Blessings, remains the dean of Caribbean gospel.
He now resides in Canada, but comes out of St. Elizabeth in Jamaica where he staked his claim to fame early when he formed his first gospel group as a teenager.
In the early 1970s, he catapulted to the national spotlight as the writer and lead singer for the highly acclaimed Grace Thrillers group. He penned their first mega hit in 1973, Too Late Shall be Your Cry.
In the many years between the glory days of the Grace Thrillers and today, Banton has been able to move easily between the musical genres, scoring crossover hits in R&B and reggae.
But he never strayed too far from his calling, and remained a force on the Canadian and Caribbean gospel scene with a long line-up of hits.
Banton will share the stage with up-and coming Gospel star Donnett Thompson Hall, who is now based in Toronto.
Since launching her first album Ultimate Source five years ago, she has been rising steadily on the national and international circuit and copping several impressive awards, including being named “Female Artist of the Year for 2014” by the Canadian Caribbean Gospel Music Award.
The concert will offer Montrealers another opportunity to savor another exciting performance by host Montreal West Gospel Choir, which continues to deliver highly inspiring performances 30 years after they were established by Sister Bernice Gayle.
Encore, in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Montreal West Gospel Choir, on April 30, at 5255 rue de Sorel. From 6:30 PM. Ticket holders from the November 7, 2015 concert will be honored. Info: 514 .484.8271, 514. 781.2537, 514.718.9435
Celebrating two years at Lighthouse Tabernacle Apostolic Church
On May 4, 2014, Lighthouse Tabernacle Apostolic officially opened its doors to the community. Two years later, we celebrate our success. In the last two years we have been able to provide over 30 food baskets plus 10 gift cards to families in need. We were also able to expand our ministry and acquire a bigger location. Our goal is to continue to grow and help as many people as possible.
As we approach a milestone in the ministry, we welcome you to join us in our celebration. This year, from Friday, May 6 until Sunday, May 8, with nightly services beginning at 6:30 p.m. (11 a.m. on Sunday) we anticipate a mighty move of God. Our guest speaker will be Bishop Everton Foster on the theme: “Building Together.”
Our goal as a church is to bring the people together as one. There is power in unity. If we work together we can build our communities, our churches, etc. However, to be successful we must work together as one.
This conference will provide those who desire change with the opportunity to connect and begin planning for the next level.
We take this opportunity to invite all Montrealers, all churches, as Jesus said, “Whosoever will may come.”
Come on out and be blessed by powerful singing, preaching, and most importantly an opportunity to unite as one.
