Every thriving immigrant community eventually creates a place that becomes more than a place to shop. Jewish communities built market streets. Italians gathered around neighbourhood food districts. Chinese communities established Chinatowns that evolved into cultural and culinary stops. These spaces preserve identity, create opportunity, and give entrepreneurs somewhere to be seen. And now Montreal’s African community is looking to write its own chapter.
Inspired by the legendary Balogun Market in Lagos, Nigeria, one of West Africa’s busiest commercial districts, Balogun Market is bringing that same entrepreneurial energy to Montreal. Created by WCH (Wealth and Career Hub) Initiative Canada, the initiative provides African entrepreneurs with a dedicated platform to showcase their products, introduce their services, and build lasting business relationships.
Happening on September 13 at La Galleria at the Leonardo Da Vinci Centre in Montreal. Balogun Market 2026 is set to be a full cultural experience converging music, food, fashion, art, and community.
African entrepreneurs have long contributed to Montreal’s economy, yet many micro and small businesses continue to rely on word of mouth and fragmented networks to reach customers. Balogun Market was created to bring those businesses together under one roof, increasing visibility while creating opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and growth.
Although its primary purpose is to create greater visibility for African-owned businesses, Balogun Market is open to entrepreneurs and visitors from every background. It is a space built by Africans to celebrate African enterprise while welcoming everyone who values commerce, culture, and community.
The aim is to hold it 4 times a year and serve as a business hub where retailers, artisans, food vendors, and professional service providers can meet customers, suppliers, investors, and potential collaborators. From accountants, lawyers, estheticians, and other professionals, the market creates opportunities for connections and partnerships that last long after the event ends.
What sets Balogun Market apart is its commitment to business development. Through WCH Initiative Canada, participating vendors receive guidance before and after each market to strengthen their branding, improve their marketing, refine their products, and prepare for future growth. Each event becomes another milestone in helping micro and small businesses become stronger, more sustainable enterprises.
At its heart, Balogun Market celebrates a tradition deeply rooted across the African continent: the market as a place where business, culture, relationships, and opportunity come together. It is more than a marketplace; it is an investment in African entrepreneurship and a growing contribution to Montreal’s multicultural economy.
Applications are now open for vendors, artisans, food businesses, designers, beauty brands, service providers, and community organizations of any kind. Balogun Market offers businesses and entrepreneurs an opportunity to reach new customers and, expand their network, and grow alongside one of Montreal’s fastest-growing African business communities.
