Honoring “Champions”…

The ninth edition of the Montreal Community Cares Awards took place Saturday, May 11 at Loyola High School. The awards ceremony paid tribute to 12 individuals and organizations that are helping to make a difference in people’s lives in Montreal.
Among those honored were
- Ivan Livingstone who was a standout professional football player as well as a long-serving educator
- Fabienne Colas, founder of Montreal International Black Film Festival and
- John Bowman veteran Alouettes defensive end;
The Montreal Community Cares Foundation was founded in 2011 by Denburk Reid, a recording-setting basketball star out of McGill University and a former semi professional star, as a way to recognize and honor “champions actively involved in making Montreal a better place to live and work.”
And the annual awards gala serves as a fundraiser for the foundation’s many community oriented initiatives including its Red Rush Leadership program, which uses basketball to help teach disadvantaged young people about leadership, business and team spirit.
The hosts of the event this year were, once again, TVA Sports’ announcer Derek Aucoin and Natasha Hall of CJAD AM 800.
