Just as he did last year, Montreal funk and soul doctor gave the massive crowd of music lovers just what they needed at this year’s edition of the West Island Blues Festival, which was staged at the Dollard des Ormeaux Park on Saturday, June 18.
Now in its 12th year, the festival is quickly growing into being one of the biggest and most exciting summertime events in the Montreal area and with an overflow crowd this year, seems to be out growing its usual venue.
This year, James and his band, the Freddie James Project had a lot of help keeping the crowd turned on with appearances by Michele Sweeney and Dawn Tyler Watson.
But as the sun began to set, he took it upon himself to make it a night to remember. He offered the crowd everything from a tribute to the legendary Prince to the best of the 70s, 80s and 90s in funk and soul then doused them with a nice little reggae vibe.
Festival organizer Errol Johnson says it was indeed a bumper year. And he thanked his many sponsors, supporters and spectators for their involvement.
A chunk of this year’s proceeds will go to the West Island Black Community Association.
