Selwyn House student wins award

13-year-old Israel Dial has a plan, and the Selwyn House student is on a trajectory to fulfilling his academic dreams and a career ambition to become an Opthalmologist.
This was made possible when Israel became the first recipient of the Erene & Joel Anthony Selwyn House Scholarship, which allows him to continue his studies at Selwyn House through grade 11. Prior to moving to Selwyn House, Israel was an honour student at Westmount High School.
In addition to covering his annual school fees of approximately $27,000, Israel Dial will also have opportunities to interact with, and be mentored by, professionals in his field of interest.
Aside from academic pursuits and career interests, Israel has various extracurricular interests. He is a member of the Union United Youth Band, where he plays the guitar (he also plays other instruments); attends the Trevor Williams Summer Basketball Camp, is a member of the Selwyn House Cadet Football team, sings for the St. Gabriel’s Church Choir.
Established by Paul Demarais at a 2013 Fundraiser at which Erene Anthony was a keynote speaker, highlighting students from families in need, an initial infusion of $250,000 at the time into the Erene & Joel Anthony Selwyn House Scholarship fund has now grown to $1,000,000.
Israel Dial is laying footsteps for other ambitious students to follow.
