Repercussion Theatre In The Parks

This year, four seasoned actors out of the Black community will be among the 10-member Shakespeare-in-the-Park cast

Beginning July 2 to 26, under new artistic director Amanda Kellock, Repercussion Theatre is presenting a summer production, Twelfth Night or What You Will, a raucous yet touching story of a set of separated twins desperate to find their missing half.
This year, four seasoned actors out of the Black community will be among the 10-member Shakespeare-in-the-Park cast of emerging and experienced thespians. They include Letitia Brookes (Maria), Matthew Kabwe (Sir Toby), Rachel Mutombo (Olivia), and Mike Payette (Orsino).
Letitia Brookes launched her theater company, Nu Spyce Productions, in 2011 with her inaugural production of Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf, and has appeared in several productions since then. A member of Black Theater Workshop’s 2013/2014 Artist Mentorship Program, she was honoured with the 2014 Gloria Mitchell-Aleong Award at the company’s Vision Gala.
Matthew Kabwe (Sir Toby) is a native of Pointe-Claire. He is a 2003 graduate of Dawson College’s Dome theatre program. Since then he has worked throughout Canada in theatre, film, television and commercials and has lent his voice to documentaries, animated films and video games.
Rachel Mutombo (Olivia) graduated from John Abbott’s professional theatre program in 2013. She was a part of Black Theatre Workshop’s emerging artist mentorship program in 2013-2014. She has just finished her first year of acting training at the National Theatre School of Canada and is thrilled to spend the summer delving into the revelry of Twelfth Night.
Mike Payette (Orsino) is a Montreal-based actor and director who has worked professionally for many years, including in some of Canada’s finest theatres – The Citadel, The Grand (London, ON), Factory Theatre, Neptune Theatre, and others. He is Assistant Artistic Director for Black Theatre Workshop.
Repercussion Theatre is reaching directly into communities with this new grass roots initiative to benefit both the SITP tour and local non-profits.
Information kiosks will be set up during each performance. And as a matter of public interest, at intermission audiences will have an opportunity to ask questions. There will also be workshops for youth (ages 13 to 17 years) who are interested in acting as a career, the objective being to inspire a lifelong love of theatre in a relaxed and fun environment. The cost is $25 per person.
All performances are Freewill donation, with a suggested amount of $10 per person over 12 years.
