Motown Comes To “A Taste Of Tea”
Motown greats Skipper Dean, formerly of The Platters, and Montreal Soul Icon Michelle Sweeney with her live band will headline the 10th Anniversary of Playmas Montreal Cultural Association’s annual Caribbean Tea Party, “A Taste of Tea”, on Sunday, March 8.
This GLAM event will celebrate its 10th anniversary of International Women’s Day to recognize six trailblazing Black female doctors in our community.
“We are very pleased this year to again hold this wonderful event in the Main Ballroom at the Cote St. Luc Aquatic and Community Centre, 5794 Parkhaven, Cote St. Luc, Quebec”, says Terry Carries, vice president of Playmas Montreal.
For the past nine years Playmas Montreal Cultural Association has celebrated International Women’s Day by paying tribute to over fifty outstanding women in Montreal for their ongoing generous contributions to the community.
“This year the Tea Party will provide a unique opportunity for our community to come up close and personal with six Black female doctors in their various specialities,” says President Gemma Raeburn-Baynes.
The six doctors being honoured will receive the annual “Woman of Merit Award” in tribute to their devotion to health care and their contribution to the betterment of the community.
Keynote address will be delivered by Ms. Yvonne Sam, registered nurse and educator, a former recipient of the Woman of Merit Award and a writer for Montreal Community Contact for many years.
The dress code is GLAM, incorporating the Motown era with sleek sophisticated dresses for the women and high-style suits, shirts and shoes for the men. Prizes for the “Best Motown Styles.”
As Michael Jackson famously said: “Got to be there.”
The event is an all-inclusive afternoon of delicious teas straight from Grenada, Caribbean delicacies, and a decadent sweet table.
