Jackie Robinson Golf on July 17

Jackie Robinson Golf on July 17

On Friday, July 17, 2015, the Jackie Robinson Annual International Golf Tournament will be held at one of the premier golf courses in the Montreal area, Golf Saint-Raphaël.
The event is hosted annually by the Black Academic Scholarship Fund (BASF) to raise funds for its scholarship program to provide financial assistance to visible minority students who are currently pursuing a programme of study at an accredited institution and are in good academic standing.
Active in Montreal’s Black community since 1991, the BASF aims to enhance the economic status of the community by providing more opportunities for students to achieve their educational and career goals.
And through the annual golf tournament along with many individual and corporate sponsors [who share the goals of supporting education and community development objectives], the invaluable support of BASF has been able to award over 200 scholarships to students in various vocational studies, as well as undergraduate and post-graduate programs. [In 2014, 6 scholarships totalling $10,100 were awarded.]
Many past recipients are now valuable contributors to the economic and cultural richness of Montreal, Quebec and Canada.
The annual golf tournament honours Jackie Robinson, whose outstanding contributions as a member of the Montreal Royals baseball team, help change racial attitudes, not just in the world of baseball—breaking the colour barrier in major league baseball—but in society.
His perseverance, strength and outstanding character personify the qualities of the man who continues to inspire us and keep his memory alive through the Jackie Robinson Annual International Golf Tournament.
Organizers are inviting you to join them  on July 17 for this very special annual event, the 21st Jackie Robinson Golf Tournament, and tee off for a good cause.
And after a great day on the green, the fun will continue with music and cocktails followed by a gourmet meal (wine included). As usual, there will be fabulous prizes. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit BASF’s Scholarship and youth programs. Tax receipts will be provided for the eligible portion of the fees. In 2014, six scholarships were awarded for a total of $10,100.]
