In the kingdom of Gospel music, Kirk Dewayne Franklin is royalty who ascended to the top with an endless line of hits that reaches back to 1990 when as a 20-year-old he took his place as a leading choir director.
Three years later, the world knew who he was when he introduced Gospel lovers to Kirk Franklin and The Family, with an album of the same name, which became the first gospel record to sell over a million copies.
Of course, after that the world can never miss Kirk Franklin who today reigns supreme with no less that 9 Grammy’s, 40-something Stellar Awards, as well as 16 Dove Awards to go with the 10.5 million records he sold in the little over two decades that he has been on the scene.
Of late, the ever-prolific writer and producer chose to occupy himself with projects that offered him a different profile such as an executive at his Fo Yo Soul Recordings and as an executive producer and host of the highly popular musical competition series Sunday Best on BET.
However, much to the satisfaction of his true followers, those who cannot get enough of his inspirational lyrics unique and captivating rhythms, Franklin went back to the recording studio and produced Losing My Religion, a 13-track album that features a lineup of emerging stars such as Tasha Page-Lockhart, Zacardi Cortez, Kim Burrell, Lalah Hathaway, Sarah Reeves, Tasha Cobbs, and Tamela Mann.
Cloaked in a history of extraordinary talent, Kirk Dewayne Franklin comes back to Montreal to hold court with his followers on Friday, November 4, at the Bell Centre.
