CELEBRATE WITH Mr. Herbert H. Blaize NEW HONORARY CONSUL FOR GRENADA IN QUEBEC

Montrealers are invited to the Crowne Plaza Hotel on April 21, to celebrate the installation of Mr. Theodore H. Blaize as the new Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec.
On hand for the official welcoming ceremony will be Ambassador Derrick James, Consul General for Grenada in Canada, the Ambassador, who will officially introduce Blaze to his new position as Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec. He will be assuming the post previously held by the late Leonard Wharwood Jr.
Born in Aruba, Blaize was schooled in the Dutch language until the age of 12 before his parents returned to Grenada. He continued his early education in English.
After graduating from high school, he was employed at Jonas Browne & Hubbards Ltd. as a sales agent for two years before accepting the position of Internal Auditor at the Grenada Cooperative Bank where he remained until August 1974.
During his brief working years in Grenada, Blaize was very active in the political life of the island, following in the footsteps of a family that has been steeped in the politics.
Theodore was also active with the Jaycees International (Grenada) serving as secretary, organizing events proceeds of which were donated to charities.
In 1974, Blaize migrated to New York to attend college, where he studied Accounting and Business Administration, with a minor in Finance. He was employed as an Internal Auditor at Elizabeth Arden on Fifth Avenue in NYC. He then made his way to Montreal in the late 1970s where he met and later wed Ivy Earle.
He joined the Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal (GNAM) serving as a resource person and helping in its fundraising initiatives for the organization, some of which was used to send goods to Grenada in the wake of devastating hurricane Ivan in 2004, using his many contacts at the International Shipping and Transport business where he is employed as Vice-President of Conterm.
In 2015, in recognition of his service to the Grenadian community in Montreal and to Grenada, the GNAM presented Theodore with an award of recognition.
Following the passing of his wife of 39 years, he immersed himself in the community and was named Honorary Deputy Consul to the High Commission of Grenada in Canada, responsible for the Temporary Farm Workers Program, which brings many Grenadians to come to Quebec.
He also serves as a Commissioner of Oaths for Quebec giving him authority to assist not only Grenadians, but any resident of the province.
In 1980, he became a member of the Grunt Club of Montreal, an organization with membership drawn from persons in the International Steamship and Transport business. He is currently serving as president.
He is also president of the recently formed Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec.
Those who know him agree that Blaize is well-suited to serve as Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec, because of his poise, his dedication to the country and his wisdom.
As he prepares to step into his new position, Montrealers of all backgrounds are invited to join him at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Plaza Volare, 6600 Cote de Liesse Road, Montreal.
The Investiture Gala will be hosted by the Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec and Ms. Judy LaMotte of Judy’s Ushering Service, with entertainment provided by Pete Douglas, Doggies, Delta Antoine and the Fitz-Patrick Sisters.
The wine will flow, and there will also be a delicious Caribbean sweet table along with a special Caribbean Station filled with Caribbean treats, sponsored by Island Flava Restaurant of Ottawa, Greenz Restaurant and Grenadian Chef Gregory Charles of Pierrefonds, Quebec.
