Free homebuyer seminar on April 19

Two recognized professionals, real estate agent Pamela Dass and mortgage advisor Seinjit Jit, are joining forces to host a home buyers seminar aimed at helping first-time buyers and others learn how to navigate the complex terrain of purchasing a home.

Young Wes Can on Show on April 24

When the young drummers and dancers of  West-Can Folk Performing Company  take to the stage at Le Manoir  on ApWCril 24,  for  the Children Recital,  it promises to be an evening of entertainment unlike any seen in Montreal in a long time.
Wherever they perform, audiences are blown away by the dynamism of the young drummers and dancers and for this their special recital, it ‘s safe to say that they’re well primed.
Also on stage for the event will be a line-up of  up and coming  performing stars such as Club Energie, 2Marvelous and LafaMe Steel Ensemble. Geordie’s Beethoven from April 29th

Geordie Productions present Beethoven Lives Upstairs. Play originally by Susan Hammond, adapted and directed for stage by Dean Patrick Fleming.
Join local black theatre stars Quincy Armorer and Lucinda Davis as they help  children and adults alike discover the historical icon that was Ludwig van  Beethoven, the challenges he faced with his hearing loss and the genius of his  music. The arrival of an eccentric boarder turns a young boy’s life upside down: Ludwig  van Beethoven has moved upstairs! At first young Christoph resents the new tenant but slowly comes to understand the genius of the man, the torment of his  deafness and the beauty of his music. A heartfelt and mesmerizing tribute for all ages, “Beethoven Lives Upstairs” introduces audiences to some of the  composer’s most memorable works.

Last year she thrilled thousands of comedy fans  here at the Just For Laugh Festival and cemented her place in the hearts of many  Montrealers drawing  on past experiences that included  a four-month stint in jail single motherhood and weaving personal stories and social issues to keep audiences in stitches.
On the scene for 25 years, she  used  her stand up career as a springboard onto the small and big screens. She’s appeared in a laundry list of movies and shows with names you will likely recognize: Borat, Kat Williams: American Hustle, Think Like a Man and Think Like a Man Too, Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2, ;It’s Always Sunny in California and many more.
On Sunday, May 8, she will be here for the Luenell’s Mother’s Day Comedy Show  at the Plaza Centre-Ville, 777 University Street (now Robert Bourassa Blvd.) appearing on stage with  a lineup  of some of Canada’s best including   Maliaka Bryce, Big Norm, Keesha Brownie, Cedric Newman and Rochelle Clarke. As part of their annual celebration of mothers, Black Moses Production has packaged an exciting line-up of all-female performers to take to the stage at the Caribbean Paradise Lounge on May 8.
To headline what is expected to be befitting of the royalty that mothers are, organizers are bringing in Lady Samo, a spark plug of a performer out of Grenada, Carriacou to be exact, now burning up the circuit in New York, to add to the pizzazz of the evening.
For a while she was a back-up singer to Peter Humphrey before going solo. At home she has been a top ranker in all of the calypso competitions. document-11She won the Road March title in 1993. In 2014, she performed at the official opening of the Labor Day Celebration in Brooklyn.
Another highlight of the event will be an appearance by Caribbean Voices, the 25-member chorale that has become one of the community’s most treasured groups. Their ability to tug at audience’s heart strings with their renditions of Caribbean folk songs.
They will be joined by four local performers who over the years have established themselves as favorites in our community and beyond.
Among them is Lady B, a crowd pleaser whose poise and talent have earned a place among the top competitors in the calypso arena here and in TO.
Singing designer has also been earning the respect of local audiences with her spunk and style, as is Sweetz, who crosses over easily from calypso to reggae and has the moves to go with it.
Comedian TJ Max highlights of the evening with her repertoire of folksy jokes and one-liners.
Chutney pepper pot Candy Rajoon will also be on hand to add some spice to the evening.
And the show will be bookended by the pulsating beats of the AC/DC Drummers, who have made their name on the cultural circuit across Canada.

Gospel vocalist PRISCILLA FINDLAY primed for big times

PrcissilaSince the age of eight, Priscilla Findlay has had her mind made up to be a singer.
Today, the 22-year-old Montrealer is well on her way to a dream come true as an inspirational gospel vocalist.
As this young and dynamic singer continues to perform and record, she is excited to be releasing her single on July 27.
She is also looking to show off her talent to Montreal as one of the opening acts for the Bridget Blucher concert on April 16.  Then on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, she will be the featured artist at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, when she will perform with her band to what is expected to be an
She started her journey at O’Brien Church of God in St. Laurent, under the guidance of Pastor Florence Henry and the support of her parents, both of whom are Jamaica.

“My dad is a lover of music and has always encouraged me  to pursue my dreams,” says Priscilla.
Priscilla has lead worship at her local church on numerous occasions and has many accomplishments. She was the International Champion female solo vocalist for Teen Talent 2013, which earned her a one-year scholarship to Lee University in Tennessee.  During her time there, she joined the Lee University Campus Choir and got the opportunity to travel across America gaining experience and honing her skills as a vocalist.
She was fortunate to appear on American Idol with Lee University Campus Choir to back up the American Idol runner-up Clark Beckham.  She also had opportunities to work and sing along side great artists such as Danny Eason, Yolande Spooner and Carol Bernard.   She has been a member of the Jireh Gospel Choir as well as Montreal Gospel Choir.
Priscilla is a student at Concordia University continuing her studies in music, she wants to have control about her music and is enjoying her journey from the bottom up.
Watch out for this young talent who is poised to take Montreal by storm.

What better way to honour your mother than by treating her to a beautiful evening she will not forget.
This year, Mother’s Day weekend, DJ Serius & SNS Catering will be serving up their love for music andserius&s food to celebrate mothers at Le Living Room.
The event,  Thank You Mama now in its second year, is defined as an evening of fine cuisine, decadent dessert, music and dance and is expected to follow in the pattern of  the first edition, that left guests with great memories, pictures, and empty plates.  SNS Catering will mix the food, while DJ Serius will mix the music and everyone is welcomed to enjoy it
As luck would have it, you’re reading this article, and by the time you reach the final paragraph, you will be picking your tongue up off the ground and rushing out to buy tickets to be part of this signature event.
On the night of May 7th, the doors will open at 6 pm

 

to the sweet sound of the steel pan, played by Ukpöng Etang, recently featured in Le Metro paper as a “Etoile du metro” (metro Star) for his ear pleasing melodies in the metros of Montreal.
Shortly after you enter, SNS Catering will lay out a 4 course meal fit for royalty before you; starting with the  6 different hors d’oeuvres: fish cakes, crispy vegetable dumplings with peanut sauce, tomato bruschetta, Moroccan beef cigars, jerk chicken skewers, and stuffed mushrooms.
The first course will consist of a mango papaya salad, followed up with a 2nd course of Caribbean pumpkin soup. For the main and 3rd course, you will have your choice of poultry, fish or a vegan dish: grilled chicken, blue codfish filet with lemon caper sauce, or tempeh in a red wine sauce. All served with wild rice and asparagus.
The night would not be complete without dessert, the final course. A decadent chocolate cheese cake with strawberry coulis and  chocolate sauce.
If you still have room, there is a bonus: a late night sweet table to keep you going all night long as you dance the night away to the sounds of DJ Serius.
