Montreal Caribbean Fashion Week will bring local and international models an
d designers to the runway for a weekend when glitz and glamour collide with haute couture and Caribbean style.
Several superstar designers and models will be in the city for three electrifying days of show and tell. Among them is internationally acclaimed creative consultant Richard Young, flying i
n from Trinidad and Tobago, to serve as creative director for Montreal Fashion Week.
Young will have a stable of high profile models and designers to showcase, such as Athaliah Samuel, former Miss Trinidad and Tobago World, Erin Griffith and Ramon Dotson from Barbados, and Rehanna Warren from Grenada Sonia Noel from Guyana and Malou Cadet from Haiti. Toronto’s Mildred Lawrence-Tamssot and Cherith Burke will also be among the featured fashionistas.
The event runs over three days, under the theme: Chocolate, Wine and Fashion.
It opens on Thursday, May 7 with a Gala Red Carpet VIP evening adventure of culinary delights, a “showstopper” fashion show offering ‘piece de resistance’ of over 30 designers and live entertainment.
Fashion Fun Friday is on May 8, bringing together trendsetters of tomorrow and a hair design and beauty show featuring five top hairdressers and makeup artists. Both events are at the Concordia Multi-Faith Chaplaincy, 7141 Sherbrooke Street West.
Saturday May 9 will be an all-out glam party. Themed Fashion Night Out with Glitz and Glamour, it will be staged at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, also at 7141 Sherbrooke Street West.
Caribbean Fashion will be front-and-centre during this festive evening and will also be an opportunity to shine the spotlight on an icon of the local and international fashion industry. Johanne Sternthal, fashion guru, author and philanthropist will be presented with a Life-time Achievement Award.
This sparkling evening will wrap up with a really cool After Party featuring Juno Award Nominee Freddie James.
The Montreal Caribbean Fashion Week provides all with an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate Caribbean-inspired fashion and culture, which represents creativity and our capacity to be world-class. Models are in rehearsals, designers are cutting and sewing, and choreographer Dale King is in her very creative mode.
This year, attendees will be treated to delectable chocolates flown in from the Caribbean and spectacular Quebec wines each night, while enjoying an extensive showcase of fashion designs from Barbados, Guyana, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St. Kitts, Haiti, Guadeloupe, New York, New Jersey, U.S. Virgin Islands, Toronto and Montreal.
Meet some of today’s most talented designers, including Tyrone Nelson and Robert Young from Trinidad & Tobago, Alexis Campbell from Barbados, Montreal Designers Mirmond, Angela Alexis, Maureen Wiltshire, Althea Thompson, Kema Lawrence, Jessie-Ann Jessemy and Raquel Leid from Grenada. “Not only are we emphasizing the talents of our local Caribbean Designers and Models, but also aligning and showcasing what the Caribbean destinations have to offer,” says producer Gemma Raeburn-Baynes.
The event supports the Sickle Cell Anemia Association of Quebec. Doors open each night at 7:00 p.m. Shows start at 8:00 p.m.
