Summer is over, so whats next? The changing of season brings with it asense of loss and a feeling of being a bit down. While students findthemselves dreading the return of a daily routine, full of exams,homework, studying and assignments as they headback to school. Others wonder what lies ahead besides the cold weather?
During this time of the year most Soca lovers head south not only for warmth but their final Carnival fix in Miami. You may say thats its Hurricane season but that never enough to stop Miami Broward Carnival.
The Carnival is set to take place on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The weekend promises it’s usual treats of Caribbean food, music and people. Miami Carnival is also the stepping stone for many Soca artists introducing their new music to the world for 2019.
Miami Carnival marks the end of all major Carnival celebrations for many masquerades in North America for the year. I have written articles and attend Canadian Carnivals such as Carivibe (Ottawa), Carifiesta (Montreal) and Caribana (Toronto) but yet to cover and attend the largest Caribbean Carnivals in North America.
The Miami Broward Carnival as it is officially called, takes place early October every year, on the Sunday before Columbus Day. Miami Carnival is known as the best Carnival in the United States as it has the benefits of cool Caribbean weather this time of the year.
Masquerades and spectators alike from all over embrace the colourful costumes, fetes and parties for the entire weekend. The Miami Broward
Carnival always fall on Canadian thanksgiving weekend, making it so convenient for Canadians to attend. For the Soca lovers that decided to stay back in Montreal, heres a few party option for the coming long Thanksgiving weekend.
