Recital featuring West Can Junior Company

Contact Staff

For much of their lives, the young members of the West Can Folk Performing Company have been immersed in a culture of Afro-Caribbean drum, sonWCKidsDrumg and dance.
Today, the group consists of about 30 children between the ages of two and 12 years old, many of them offspring of the original members of the iconic troupe. And after several months of honing their skills and rehearsing, they have become quite good at singing, dancing and drumming. So come April 12, the youngsters want to show Montrealers what they can do.
The event, now in its 5th year, is a recital to mark the 2014-15 sessions and a launch of their Carifiesta band, “Spirit of Carnival.” It includes a series of performances by the Junior West Can members, joined on stage by a Montreal pre teen group of hip-hop stars known as Club Energie, also by Afro Caribbean Drummers out of Ottawa, led by former West Can drummer Roger Roach.
The Children Drum and Dance Recital will be held at CEDA, 2515 rue Delisle (Metro Lionel-Groulx). Doors open at 2:30pm. Show time at 3pm. Admission is $10, $5 for children.
