The Jamaican Juggernaut ups his record to 8-1
With a loud and supportive crop of family, friends and supporters in the audience, hometown boxing star Shakeel Phinn showed them what he got by easily defeating Jaudiel Zapeda (12-14-1) a Mexican fighting out of California in an eight round encounter at the Montreal Casino on Tuesday, May 24.
Shakeel won the Canada Professional Boxing Council Super Middleweight title, when he easily defeated hometown favorite Paul Bzdel (5-7-1) at the Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. The May 24th win ups his record to 8-1.
Speaking to the CONTACT after the bout the man who goes by the sobriquet, The Jamaican Juggernaut, says he found Zapeda to a strong and durable opponent.
“He took some very good shots and kept coming. He has my respect.”
“He admits that it might not have been his best performance but says he was thrown off by a couple head butts.”
This bout follows his April 12th fight against Guillermo Herrera at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, when he sent the Mexican boxer to the hospital with a brain injury follow an 8th Round KO.
Phinn told the contact his team is looking at another bout in June.
