It was a grand evening on Saturday, November 19, as Montrealers celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Independence of Antigua and Barbuda.
The event was organized by the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Montreal Reception Hall under the theme “Building an Economic Powerhouse Together,” and included an mélange of entertainment, fine dining at Il Gabbiano reception Hall in LaSalle.
A wide cross-section of community organizations were represented at the event and Egbert Gaye, managing editor of The CONTACT, delivered the featured address on the theme. He was also recognized as the association’s special honoree for 2016.
Other highlights of the evening included the presentation of the Ada Moore Bursary to Felicia Joseph, a Social Service student at Dawson College.
Ada Moore came to Canada under the Caribbean Domestic Scheme and is one of the founders of the association. Every year, the association awards a bursary in her name.
The association also made donations to the Sickle Cell Anemia Association and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Guests were well entertained with performances by two top soloists, Jillian Gurley and Wendy Sparks, together with saxophonists Charles Claxton and trombonist Erickson Skerrit.
Neville Boyce did an outstanding job as master of ceremonies.
A committee that included Condacy Barnes, David Davis, Kendall Gore, Cecily, Patricia Ralph and Elizabeth Thompson with assistance of Erene Anthony organized the event.
